An estimate for take-off, not a design check. Structural design, member sizing and connection capacity are separate calculations made by the responsible design authority.
Assumptions and limits
- Perimeter is the developed outline of the section, taken from the section table or drawing.
- Assumes the whole perimeter is accessible and coated. Members built into concrete or closed at ends have less.
- Coating coverage is a separate figure from the manufacturer — typically 4–6 m² per litre per coat at the specified dry film thickness.
