Assumptions and limits
- Uses the wall ring area, π·t·(D − t), which is exact for a plain cylinder.
- Nominal wall thickness is used. Seamless and welded pipe both carry a wall tolerance, so delivered mass varies.
- For pressure-critical line pipe use the mill certificate mass, not this estimate.
